Bonus points to Chaosium for perfectly respecting gender balance. The ready-made Investigators fit not only because of the skills chosen, but because of the drama their existence creates. Instead of something great happening, Investigator failure means that the characters, or the world, will fizzle away. The ending in some are in fact utterly Cthulhian. In any event, none of the scenarios here feel generic the Lovecraftian touches are all there, from space/time madness to supernatural manipulation, and from gory escapades to the inherent meanness of human nature. The oldest amongst us surely remember Blood Brothers, a collection of non-Cthulhu adventures so successful that it was actually followed by a second tome. Cthulhu without Cthulhu might not sound intuitive at first, it is however a cool concept and in any event, it is not the first time it gets implemented. It thus creates new ones, unnamed ones, never encountered before, to which the players won't know how to react. The strong points: Nameless Horrors starts with a clever idea players may know already some, if not many, Mythos adversaries. If you intend to participate in these scenarios as a player, stop reading now.
